Hi, my name is Pam and for the last 9 months, I have been a member of the Kolesnikov School of Mind and Body Development with Aikido.
I am 63 years old, and a retired Paediatric Physiotherapist. I had to retire earlier than I wished to, as I began to suffer from what is known as Benign Positional Vertigo. It is a misnomer, the dizziness it produces leaves you unable to focus your eyes, or sufficient balance to walk. I could not treat my patients, indeed the lights shining on the hospital floor and also some supermarket floors meant I could not enter those places. At home, many everyday tasks left me sick and dizzy. I was told that I had to live with this!!!
Having been used to physical activity, I wanted to keep fit so having read about Sensei Kolesnikov's School of Mind and Body Development in the local paper, I decided to give it a try.
Watching the students roll about on the floor, and whirl each other around both in the Mind and Body class and the Aikido, I began to think that I had made a big mistake. I not only had vertigo, but surely I was too old to do this. Sensei assured me that the flow of Ki or inner energy which I would develop, combined with his Ki and that of the other experienced members, would enable me to control my vertigo and improve my health.
At that point, "unbeliever" should have been flashing like a beacon on top of my head; however I would give it a go. I should have listened; within weeks my vertigo had lessened, and in three months had all but disappeared. I now only have attacks when I am very tired, and I am able to control and lessen the effects by breathing (as I have been taught by Sensei Kolesnikov) and returning my mind to my centre from which healing energy flows.
I am now a much calmer and more optimistic person, and feel healthier than I ever did. I have taken and passed my first grading, and begun to work towards the next. Realistically, I will be in my 70s before I could hope to reach Black Belt, but I am going to keep going as long as possible so you never know. Come and join us, as it will change your life for the better.
